FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Got any questions?
Here are some of the most common questions we receive. If you need more clarification, have any other questions, or would like to book a complimentary consultation to learn more, please contact us!
Who do you work with?
Women who are established in their careers, are now thinking about how to organize their finances to meet certain milestones such as retirement, pivoting their careers, going on a sabbatical – because every client is unique. We help our clients feel empowered to set personal financial goals and design a plan for achieving them. We work together as a trusted advisor to give them unbiased, professional advice, and to monitor and follow up as circumstances change.
What can you expect from us?
You can expect us to work in your best interest. We want you to feel comfortable with sharing the goals and financial issues that affect your: family, occupation, recreation and money. We build a cooperative partnership that will help us craft a plan that is goal-oriented but also flexible enough to change as your life evolves.
What is a financial plan?
A financial plan is the cornerstone of an individual or family’s strategy for financial independence. Saving and investing are important parts of a financial plan, but there is so much more.
How much do you need to save and how should the funds be allocated? How much do you need to have to retire by a certain age? Should those savings be allocated to debt repayment? Which savings vehicles should I use?
What’s your investment strategy? Have you addressed areas such as asset allocation, fees, estate implications and performance?
Is your financial plan tax-efficient?, or are there things you should be doing differently, either individually or as a family?
Also important to consider, is what happens if you become sick, injured or disabled, or worse, if you die unexpectedly? Will your family’s financial plan still be on track?
A financial plan is a comprehensive projection over the long-term that identifies and projects your income, expenses, assets and liabilities and how these four areas come together on an annual basis for the rest of your life. It can be used to make decisions for either the short term or the long-run.
How long does the process take?
Every situation is unique. From the time you decide to work with us and provide us with the necessary information, an initial working draft plan usually takes 2-3 weeks to create. Then once it is implemented, we provide ongoing advice as the client’s situation changes. Ideally, it is an on-going long-term relationship.
What is the difference between investment advice and financial planning?
Financial planning takes into consideration all aspects of your financial life, including investments, retirement, tax planning, estate planning, and insurance, as well as your personal behaviours and needs, bringing everything together to understand how to optimize your goals. Investment advice only takes into consideration whether your risk tolerance is aligned with the types of investments you hold to meet your investment goals.
Do I need to invest with you in order to obtain a financial plan?
It is entirely up to you. The services we offer can range from either building your plan and charging for our advice or we can build and implement the plan. If you already have a trusted investment advisor, we are happy to build a partnership with them to ensure we are optimizing your financial plan together.
Are you influenced to recommend certain specific investment products?
No. We are completely independent of any financial institutions and their products. Our main goal is to ensure the investment products you own are best suited for achieving your financial goals.
What about fees?
Our clients are able to choose how they pay us. These fees are fully disclosed. If insurance is part of your financial plan, we may receive a commission on those purchases in keeping with the insurance industry practice. We will always be completely transparent about disclosing any income we receive for acting on your behalf.
Can you provide qualifications & references?
I hold the Certified Financial Planner Designation (CFP®). Our governing body, the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC), “ensures those it certifies . . . meet appropriate standards of competence and professionalism through rigorous requirements of education, examination, experience and ethics.”
Client references will be provided upon request. We have worked with many clients who would be happy to share their experience. You can also check out our testimonials.
